Bourges City Guide

A Stroll Around Bourges

A Stroll Around Bourges

The heart of Bourges old town is brimming with charm and interesting sights. With its rich medieval past, the walk is an invitation to dream. The half-timbered houses dating from the XV and XVI centuries can be seen as you roam the town’s narrow streets.  Admire the over four hundred and forty timber-framed houses that flank the streets of Bourbonnoux, Merebaux, Auron, Gambon and Edouard Vaillant. Shops, cafés, delicatessens, restaurants and patisseries punctuate this walk through the heart of beautiful Bourges, listed a “Town of Art and History” in 1992.

Not to be missed in Bourges:

  • The famous “Le printemps de Bourges” festival, a time when the whole city is buzzing and living in line with the schedule of concerts by French and international, established or up and coming artists.

  • Bourges medieval festivals (early June) to experience a journey back to the era of knights and enjoy shows where heritage and entertainment unite in a happy blend.
